2019 Australian Kookaburra
Kookaburra is a bird from the kingfisher subfamily and it is found in Australia and New Guinea. The Australian Kookaburra is a series by The Perth Mint, the first coin from the series was minted in 1990.The design of the coin is very fascinating since the amount of detailing is hard to ignore. The 1 Ounce version of the coin has a face value of AUD 1.
Reverse
The reverse side of the coin features the Australian Kookaburra sitting on a branch which appears to be in some water body along with some flora and fauna in the background. Behind the Kookaburra is the setting sun. The initials ‘AH’ of the designer Aleysha Howarth is embedded on the branch. On the left is a ‘P’ mark which denotes The Perth Mint. The words “Australian Kookaburra” are inscribed on the top of the coin along with the year of the issue, weight and purity, “2019”, “1 Oz” and “9999 Silver” respectively.
Obverse
The obverse side of the Kookaburra features her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II whose effigy was done by Jody Clark whose initials ‘JC’ can be seen on the Queen’s shoulder. A very interesting fact about the coins from the series is that the Queen’s effigy coincides with the Queen’s age. The top of the obverse side has the inscription “Elizabeth II” and “Australia” along with “1 Dollar” at the bottom.
Edges
The edges of the coin are reeded which gives a good texture.
Overall, The Australian Kookaburra made by The Perth Mint is an outstanding coin made with the combination of shiny and frosted silver.
