organizations. India Government Mint, Mumbai has been releasing commemorative coins since
1964. The commemorative coins issued by the Mint are of very high quality and have a great
demand among coin collectors and numismatists.
Commemorative coins are of two types
Proof Coins
Uncirculated Coins
Proof Coins:
Proof coins are the high quality commemorative coins which have a frozen effect on the surface
design of the coin with a mirror finish. These coins are marked with the symbol 'M' to indicate
that they are manufactured at Mumbai Mint. These coins are sold at a premium price as they
are manufactured with high quality standards and have high numismatic value.
Uncirculated Coins:
Uncirculated coins are the high quality commemorative coins which have mirror finish on the
surface but without any frozen effect on the design. These coins are marked with a diamond
symbol to indicate they are stamped at Mumbai Mint. The uncirculated coins are also sold at
premium but they are priced a little lower than the proof coins.
History
In 1964 production of commemorative coins was started. The first commemorative coin was in the memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Theme Description
Jainacharya Shree Vijay Vallabh Surishwer Ji has been one of the most erudite Saint of recent times (1870-1954 A.D.) who led the most austere life of a Jain Saint and worked selflessly and dedicatedly for the spread of Lord Mahavira’s message of Non-violence, world peace and universal brotherhood. Born at Vadodara in 1870 A.D. to worthy parents – Shri Deep Chand Ji and Smt. Icchya Bai, he found peace and happiness in listening to the sermons of Jain Saints and these inclinations led him to sainthood at the tender age of 17 as a disciple ofHis Holiness Jainacharya Shree Vijayanand Surishwer Ji (popularly known as Guru Atmaram Ji) – the then highly venerated Jain Saint and the most profound scholar of Jainism.
Ordained bythe great Guru, Muni Vallabh relentlessly worked for the welfare of Society irrespective of cast, class and creed. His human nature, rational outlook, practical approach, disciplined life, humble behaviour imbibing true virtues of Jain Saintendeared hm tomasses.Guru Vallabh with his vastknowledge of Jain philosophy as well asothrcontemporary religions and faiths was n accomplished writer orator, people used to come from far off places to listen to his prawachanas. He wrote many astavanas, pujas, essays – rich in languageand percept,which are extremely popular and relevant even at present.
Guru Vallabh breathed his last on Asoj Vadi 11, Vikram Samwat 2011 (21st September 1954) at Mumbai at the age of 84. His Samadhi Mandir at Byculla, Mumbai, Multifaced memorial – Vallabh Smarak Jain Mandir Tirth at Delhi and hundreds of Guru Mandirs in many states as well as abroad are a preferred destination for a huge number of devotees.
